The Norwood Hotel was first established in 1885, and is the oldest family owned and operated hotel in Manitoba, and one of the oldest in Canada. The Norwood has always been an innovator in the hotel industry. For example, in 1956 the Norwood opened the first beverage room in Manitoba, and was the first to offer live musical entertainment. Since then many notable entertainers have graced the Norwood stage.
The Norwood's beverage room called the "Wood Tavern and Grill", is a classic neighborhood pub widely known for its excellent food (in 1997 we won the "Best Ribs in Town" contest). The Saturday Seafood Buffet, which features live Nova Scotia lobster, has been attracting customers for over fifteen years.
The Norwood Hotel Beer Store; opened in 1982, was the first self-serve beer store in Canada. As a matter of fact, the name "Beer Store" originated at the Norwood, and beer vendors across Canada have modeled their design after ours.
