Even before you arrive on the Islands, you’ll feel their effect. On the ferry over, you’ll start smiling more, breathing easier. And staring in wonder as orcas surface from the deep. By the time you arrive on Vancouver Island or any of our Gulf Islands, you’ll be relaxed and ready to kick back and enjoy your winter escape.

One of the best things you can do on the islands is nothing at all. Bundle up for a cozy stroll on the beach. Collect everything from seashells to works of art by local artisans. Or engage in a favourite island pass-time, and storm-watch. Nothing compares to this quaint seaside winter setting.

Even in the winter, water activity is at a high. Charter a boat. Rent a kayak. Or scuba dive and find shipwrecks, wolf eels, octopus, six-gill sharks, soft coral, and sponges. In fact, winter is the best season to enjoy a clear, picture-perfect view of under-water life.

From May to October, you can spot orcas breaching the waters off Southern Vancouver Island. Or take a whale watching cruise in Johnstone Strait. In March and April, up to 20,000 Pacific gray whales migrate from Baja to Alaska. The best place to see these magnificent creatures is off Vancouver Island's west coast.

Golfing here isn't a pastime, it's a passion. Play year-round at more than 50 spectacular courses on Vancouver Island, including 22 championship courses.
